The Execution Gap
The distance between something an organization knows should exist and its ability to actually build it.
Most large organizations are not short of ideas. Leadership can name, without preparation, the applications that should exist, the workflows that should not still live in spreadsheets, and the internal systems engineering has never reached.
What is missing is capacity to execute. The gap is not strategic imagination. It is the throughput between a decision and working software in the hands of a real user.
The gap has a cost, and it is rarely on any budget line. It shows up as manual work absorbed by staff, as decisions made without the system that would have informed them, as a competitor shipping the capability first.
Closing the gap is an operating problem, not a motivational one. It requires fewer handoffs between disciplines, earlier evidence, and a delivery model where progress is measured in working capability rather than elapsed coordination.
