Build

The internal application engineering never reaches.

Tools your own staff need that never clear the prioritization threshold, because the business case is real but the engineering cost was too high.

You may recognize

The situation is usually specific before it is strategic.

  • Work absorbed manually by staff because the tool was never built.
  • A team that maintains its own shadow system in a spreadsheet.
  • A request that has been re-submitted every year and deferred every year.

How Septiva approaches it

Working software early. Evidence before the commitment grows.

Re-price the decision
Many internal tools were rejected on an engineering cost that no longer holds. Re-estimate before re-deferring.
Build the version staff will actually use
Sit with the people doing the work. The requirement is usually narrower than the ticket.
Keep it owned internally
Internal tools should not create an external dependency to change a dropdown.

Where this may not be the answer

If the workflow should not exist at all, building software for it makes the wrong thing permanent.

The first move

Challenge the assumptions. Then decide.

Bring the initiative and the estimate or timeline attached to it.
